Hi, everyone, We are going to get a pre nup and I have instructed solicitors to draw it up. However they cannot give advice to my fiancee as they need their own advice to make the pre nup agreement more watertight? What sort of money are we looking at, as I have been quoted more than we paid for the prenup with local solicitors firms?
Your solicitors are correct, for a pre-nuptial agreement to have legal weight, both parties need to have had independent legal advice and this needs to be documented, usually in the form of a legal advice certificate signed by the solicitors ( or barristers).
We have a pre-nuptial advice review service for £399 ( incl vat) which may be of help. This is staffed by experienced and qualified lawyers, so will be able to issue the certificate your fiancee needs. It sounds like this is going to be a better quote than you have already, but please feel free to shop around. This can be done over the phone or via video conferencing such as Zoom etc.
Thanks for the advice, qhat happens once we have paid, who gets what? Can I pay for it and set up the appointment or does she have to do it. I don’t mean to sound a bit thick but never done this before. All the best Josef.
Either of you can pay for the pre nup advice and review and it may be best to just call in and get it set up on 01793 384029. Your fiancee will then receive an email with details of our money laundering and ID process ( all done online) and then can request an appointment with the lawyer. She will need to send a copy of the drafted pre nuptial agreement to them in advance so they can explain the clauses and what they mean to her. Hope that helps.
